Killjoy Habits: On Clarity

Oh, it's also my birthday 🎂

The New Year brings with it a lot of reflections. And like most things that exist, there are both negative associations, and some positive ones. I’ve witnessed shame-induced spirals over what wasn’t accomplished this past year, and enthusiasm for new and shiny goals. We each have our own way of starting the new year.

For me, a lot sits close to the surface throughout January. There’s my birthday in the first half of the month (yes, I’m a Capricorn) and I love fussing over my brand-new yearly planner like it’s a new toy. I’m not just setting goals for the new year, I’m setting goals for a new age.

So every time my birthday comes around, everyone is already talking about resolutions and the kind of person they want to be, the habits they want to build. So, they’ll ask me: “Excited to turn 25/26/insert-age-here? Any big plans?”

For years, I had an answer. Then I moved to Spain.
