Bi+ on-screen representation has always been a little… mixed, to say the least. It’s strange for me to imagine a time where I didn’t think same-gender attraction was even a possibility. Did none of the shows I watched cover even a little about same-gender attraction? For real?
I can honestly say I don’t remember anyone talking to me about same-gender attraction, or same-gender couples. The first proper memory I have is from Home-ed in high school, where our textbook stated explicitly that “same-sex couples are not considered a family for the purposes of the law”. (Books pre-2015 were wild.)
As for the media I consumed before then, I would watch shows like Bones, Charmed, and House with my parents. And in fit of both nostalgia and desire to connect with my inner child, I’ve been diving headfirst into a full Bones binge. As an adult, I’m noticing things I never caught on as a kid - while at the same time hyper focusing on episodes I’d never seen before (likely due to parental censorship).
Which brings me to Angela, and her girlfriend.
