The sun is shining, and the signs of spring are everywhere - from melting snow to finally (FINALLY) hearing birds chirping ‘cause we can open windows without freezing. As you’ve likely already heard in last week’s episode, we’re excited to delve into what it means to be bi+ at various intersections of the human experience. It’s not just that we’re all different people, each with our own social location/coordinates - it’s that when we sit to reflect on these experiences, we are able to identify the institutions that shape how the world reacts to us, and how we react to the world.
Now, as politics continue to shift, we’ve left you with quite a bit of homework. It’s important that you approach activist and community work sustainably, taking care of yourself along the way. It’s also crucial that you get involved, wherever your interests, passion, and skills can best serve those around you, and those in need.
Should your passion and interests be directed to the work we’re doing here at Bisexual Killjoy, we’d be thrilled to have you.
Currently, we have a small team of three, your best friends (Bailey and Jace) serve as co-producers, co-hosts, researchers, writers, social media managers, and a gazillion other odds and ends. We also have a wonderful sound engineer, Richie, that makes sure you get high-quality audio every other week without the “ums” and other language mishaps. We work hard to bring you accurate information in a way that’s easily understood and helpful to your everyday experiences - no easy feat in and of itself - while also juggling full-time jobs.
But we want to do so much more.
We know there’s more we can do to get the podcast to reach others in their preferred format, and share bi+ joy, information, and activism to an even wider audience. To do that, we need volunteers to spend some time with us and work on new and ongoing projects.
A few projects we’ve had to keep on the back burner:
Transcripts: We’re working on transcribing all the episodes that are out so far, so we can upload them as reference documents here on Substack. We have a rough outline of most of them so far, but we could really use help cleaning them up and making sure they’re ready to go.
Social Media: We’ve lowered our social media presence to adjust to our current bandwidth. We’d love to expand our reach to include alternate social media spaces (like Bluesky), sharing short-form content with informational tidbits, quotes, and assorted bi+ facts. If you love playing around with Canva, recording short videos, and/or promoting content on social media, you’re the person we’ve been looking for!
Discord: Rumor has been around for months now that BKJ will have a Discord server soon. If you’re passionate about creating pretty discord servers, custom stickers/emojis, and safe community engagement - we want you on the team.
While these are our most pressing projects that (admittedly) keep us awake at night, we’re also extremely interested in the special skills you bring to the table! This is a friendly bi+ space where we want to see you, and the movement, grow. If there’s something you think would be a fun fit for Bisexual Killjoy, please reach out!
If you’re interested in joining the team in any of these capacities, please book a time to speak with us using this link. There will be a short survey to fill out, and we’ll be happy to chat on a weekend about all the fun things we have in store.
With Killjoy Joy,
Bailey & Jace
